Autistic children are considered to be vulnerable in the transition process because of their different styles of social communication and social interaction and difficulties with change. A Communication Resource Booklet that the SLT Autism SIG developed in collaboration with Asiam in 2019 for Early Years Specialist Teachers. This resource is designed to be used when carrying out a preschool observation. It contains probing questions relating to the child’s communication and interactions skills, the communication partner and the environment. Each question has a corresponding handout with information and strategies that can be shared with preschool staff.
